Iran Achieves 80 Self-Sufficient in CNG Station Building

2017-10-23

TEHRAN, Oct. 23 (Shana) – Iran says it has reached 80 percent self-sufficiency in construction of compressed natural gas (CNP) stations.

Mansour Riyahi, managing director of the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC), said the country has reached 80% self-sufficiency in manufacturing the items and equipment needed for building CNG stations.

NIORDC has recently taken positive steps for developing CNG stations across Iran, the official said.

The official said the company has distributed over 54 billion cubic meters of CNG since 2005 which has reduced gasoline imports and the ensuing costs to a considerable degree in the country.

CNG (methane stored at high pressure) is a fuel which can be used in place of gasoline (petrol), Diesel fuel and propane/LPG.

CNG combustion produces fewer undesirable gases than the fuels mentioned above. It is safer than other fuels in the event of a spill, because natural gas is lighter than air and disperses quickly when released.

CNG may be found above oil deposits, or may be collected from landfills or wastewater treatment plants where it is known as biogas.
